“In riding a horse we borrow freedom” Helen Thompson

The festival of Saint Eloi is the inspiration and starting point for this work which was concieved for Nomadic Village 2013. Typically Provençal, the festival honours St Ely, the patron saint of goldsmiths and blacksmiths. The festival traditionally unites villagers around the horse and is an opportunity for Provençal villages to show off the strength and beauty of their horses/carts and the skills of their owners.

In August 2013, Louise was invited by Tadlachance as artist-in-residence to immerse herself into the equestrian culture of Cuges les Pins, a town where there is one horse per six people and documenting the equestrian community.

This series of images was shown the following year in Cuges as a street installation and projection during La Fête de Saint-Eloi, August 2014.
